More information about Shenval Farmhouse

Property information

Looking for a top quality cottage offering seclusion, privacy and panoramic views, combined with comfort, luxury and style? Then Shenval Farmhouse is the one. Perched on an elevated site commanding the most dramatic views across rolling hills, woodland and glens, this stone-built cottage is ideal for those seeking a Highland retreat.

The interior has been beautifully designed, utilising Farrow and Ball colour schemes, high quality fabrics and elegant furnishings, which all combine to create an atmosphere of warmth, comfort and peace. Every detail has received the same loving care in presentation, from John Lewis bedding and individually painted crockery to the Penhaligon's soaps and handwashes left for your use.

The wood-burning stove is a feature of the sitting room and the house is kept warm throughout by total control electric heating.

The main room (over 30 feet long) is divided into a sitting room and a dining room with a formal table for evening dining. The dining room was recently added and is a lovely place to sit, dine and admire the view. The large kitchen also has a breakfast table for six, a super Smeg larder fridge and a double electric oven and hob.

This area of the Highlands is one of very low population, mixed landscape of rolling farmland and high mountains, and a huge amount to do for everyone. There is a golf course just four miles from the house at the bottom of the glen, and those looking to have a varied holiday with some outdoor sports, visits to historic castles and whisky distilleries, fishing or just relaxing at this very special cottage will be delighted with this choice.

Fishing and stalking can be arranged by the owners.

Daily help and preparation of dinners is available by arrangement and at extra cost. Advance notice would be required for this.

Beautiful farmhouse. We had a great stay and bagged some Munros. Great area to explore and loads to do for families. Great running and cycling area close to house. Really clean house and everything we needed. No complaints at all. Loved having a bath every night actually – did not miss the shower - and we never turned on the tv! A different view every night in terms of weather and wildlife, we all found it amusing as to what would come next x really lovely stay and would recommend to everyone. Clean, comfortable, cosy, great kitchen for those who love cooking like my husband, very peaceful, hardly any passing traffic at all x Thank you
  • Wilkins
We have had a lovely week's holiday in Shenval - thank you. It has been a great base to tick off some Munros, see dolphins and ospreys and generally relax, We love the peace and the wildlife. Thank you so much - we will return!
  • DL
Very relaxing long weekend, lovely house, well equipped and nicely furnished. Fab walking in Anaghan Woods and Glenlivet. Great golf at Granton on Spey. Veritable nature reerve on doorstep - deer, pheasants, hares, oyster catchers.
  • Inglis
A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. We have really enjoyed exploring the area and relaxing too.

There are not many places that can claim that a helicopter landed in the garden, Shenval Farmhouse can now make that claim. Sincere thanks for your assistance to make my 60th birthday one I will never forget. You are so lucky to own such a beautiful property in such a fantastic, peaceful and unforgettable location - thank you!
  • E & N
It's been an oasis of peace and calm - a much needed and appreciated get away. We're leaving very reluctantly.
  • Simmons
What a beautiful cottage - we've had a fantastic week and the boys have bagged their first winter Munros. It's warm and welcoming at the end of the day.
  • Nixon
Enjoyable stay in a lovely cottage. Loved the decor. Am now home greatly relaxed!

A big thank you to everyone at LHH for their assistance in arranging the helicopter flight as a surprise birthday trip for my husband. It was only when the helicopter landed and we said Happy Birthday to him he realised it had arrived to take us on a trip, I've never known him lost for words before, but he kept saying, "I don't know what to say, I don't know what to say"! Shenval farmhouse was a lovely place to celebrate both Easter and Robin's birthday. The house is lovely, we enjoyed lazing around on the comfy sofas in front of the log burner, and always had a good nights sleep in the comfy beds. After driving up in rain we had a beautiful week weather wise. We were entertained by a couple of mad March hares nearly every morning whilst we sat eating breakfast. The time went by far too quickly. Thanks again. Kindest Regards Lesley, Robin, Graham & Michael Allison

We absolutely enjoyed our holidays in Scotland. The house is just lovely, tastefully decorated, situated in beautiful scenery, tranquil but still within easy reach of many interesting sights. We had a wonderful time. The email contacts to the owners were always fast and helpful. Jo, the housekeeper, is an utterly polite and caring person. One thing I find particularly worth mentioning are the photographs on the internet: they truly show the house as it is in reality. But also the booking and arrangements through LHH were easy, fast and friendly. Thank you. After such a great experience it is quite tough to get back into our 'normal' everyday life. Well..
  • Martin
Loved the quiet, the views, the very comfortable home. Would come again. Martin

Spent Christmas here. Having breakfast in the sun room, watching a brilliant sunrise over the snowy vista was peace on earth and heaven personified. Not a windfarm in sight! Cottage really cosy as the storms raged in the evening. Kitchen superbly equipped and more than adequate to cook Christmas dinner. We all want to go back next year, but unfortunately it's already taken! Plenty of lovely walks nearby. Only downside - our rear wheel drive didn't like the final hill up to the cottage in light snow - nearly didn't make it. (Though we discovered in the light of day that there was grit at the corners) A 4x4 would be better in the winter months.

Just returned from a fabulous week at Shenval. The house was beautiful; very tastefully furnished and equipped. We had snow showers and sun but no rain. Saw red squirrels, deer and white hares We had a friend visit who had lived in the Glen and played in the house as a child so had plenty of stories to tell ! Overall a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.Excellent for walks on the Speyside way and fishing on the Spey. We were there on the opening day and brother in law caught a fish !

We will be having our 5th holiday in this secluded and very comfortable cottage later this year. No matter what the time of year, this is the perfect place to relax, being warm and cosy in winter and light and airy in summer. Access to hill walking in the Cromdales is right on the doorstep and a quality golf course is just a few miles down the winding, single track access road. Nearby Tomintoul has good facilities and there are many other picturesque walks on the Glenlivet Estate. Views from every window in this cottage are breathtaking and it is often tempting to stay in all day and just admire the scenery. This holiday home will not disappoint.
