More information about Drumrunie

Property information

Drumrunie House, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, is beautifully positioned, cut out of the hillside on a rise overlooking the river Dee and ringed by the high mountains beyond. This Victorian house, a perfect family holiday home, is furnished, equipped and decorated to a high standard.

A new hardwood conservatory with a cathedral-style roof was added, and the kitchen/dining room has been refloored with hardwood flooring. The kitchen is newly fitted with Shaker-style kitchen units, and there is a new dining table

Situated at the edge of the village of Braemar, one of Scotland’s prettiest and most popular villages, which hosts the famous Highland Games so loved by the Royal Family, it has immediate access to countryside walks and trails without even having to cross a road. The climate is as Alpine as anywhere in the UK - often dry and sunny with crisp, clear nights (a deterrent to midges). Drumrunie's elevation is about 1250 feet above sea level.

The sheltered, landscaped garden, visited daily by red squirrels, affords panoramic views across the classic Highland landscape, yet offers a safe place for children to play. Children have their very own garden playhouse on the lawn, a tower tree house and an adjacent Wendy house. Toddler play equipment is made available on the lawn in summer. The special garden is protected by gates and fenced from the deer and rabbits which would love to dine out on the plants – but you may have the pleasure of watching them from the house.

A barbecue area is positioned to enjoy the afternoon and evening sun. There is an outdoor dining suite and the views are breathtaking. The shops, restaurants and traditional hotels of Braemar are just a short stroll away. So convenient is everything, including immediate access to walks and bike trails, that some parties have found by the end of the week they've hardly had cause to use a car. On the other hand, the whole of the Cairngorms National Park beckons, as do the Castle and Whisky Trails.

Skiing at Glenshee is just a 15-minute drive, and the Lecht slopes are approximately a 40-minute drive north. Braemar golf course (reputedly the highest and most dramatically situated course in Scotland) is nearby. For the enthusiast, there are some fifty Munros within striking distance, and the area is endowed with superb ski touring and mountaineering opportunities.

The house is warm, well equipped and comfortable, and has the added advantage of a ground floor bedroom with en suite facilities for the less able who may find stairs difficult.

To the rear of the house is a ski/boot/cycle store, and the area is perfect for mountain biking or cycling on the tracks and trails or touring on the quiet roads.

Drumrunie is a most attractive and comfortable house with a stunning garden in a very quiet location. We loved the fact that the garden was deer proof so had no worries about the dogs escaping and the children had plenty of toys to entertain themselves - and also couldn't escape! In particular we enjoyed feeding the birds and watching them flock around the feeders from the wonderful conservatory. A real bonus was the downstairs bedroom with fantastic en-suite shower room - perfect for the more elderly members of our family - and the nearby drawing room provided a welcome sanctuary for those who wanted some quiet time. Our family regularly rent a large house in Scotland and we feel that Drumrunie is probably the best house we have stayed in. On reading the Visitors Book we discovered that some relatives had stayed at the house on two occasions – quite a coincidence! We chose Drumrunie as we were looking for somewhere in the Aberdeen area which would accommodate our number of guests. We also liked the idea that it was within walking distance of the village of Braemar, which we subsequently found to be extremely friendly. We will be back!

Long weekend family break to celebrate parents diamond anniversary at Drumrunie was first class, warm and cosey, wonderful conservatory to sit in and watch the world go by over the beautiful mountains, the scenery is stunning but first and foremost the house was very comfortable and well equipped , will need to come back in the summer time to sample the garden !!
  • Dr Callum
Our holiday was excellent and the house fantastic. We chose the house because we love Deeside and wanted to stay in Braemar. I then simply went on the LHH website as we have used them several times now and always been very pleased with what we have received. The arrival arrangements worked perfectly . The keys easily got, the house clean and tidy and everything presented well. Top marks for your housekeeping staff. There was more than enough equipment and everything we needed from day one was present. We love the garden. We are wildlife lovers so don't really like formal gardens, but yours was a great mix. Our children are all adults but had they been smaller then they would have loved the garden and we would have felt happy that it was so safe and secure for them. Over all we felt the house was the best we have had in the many years our families have spent on holiday together - about 18 years so 18 houses! Thankyou for the privilege of staying in your house.

I am head of the Gregory family which has just returned from a week in Braemar at your splendid Drumrunie house. It was memorable for us all, and we were greatly impressed by the way it was managed, and severak little touches that made it your evident personal concern to offer as good a holiday as humanly possible. Thank you for your determination to make Drumrunie so special. (Rev) Ian Gregory

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Drumrunie. The house provided a very warm and homely environment that suited all ages. The flexibility of the accommodation and gardens was also appreciated as was the high level of specification and equipment in the house; particularly, the kitchen. main sitting room and the utility room and external stores. The log burning fire and conservatory attracted a lot of positive feedback from the family. Finally, we would consider visiting the house again in the future and will be happy to recommend the property to others. The key holder (Astrid) was very charming and helpful and the house had been beautifully prepared for our arrival by the housekeepers for which we are very grateful.

Drumrunie is a fantastic venue. It commands a view of the surrounding countryside which is truly stunning. The house is beautifully furnished, yet relaxing and welcoming. It has recently been enhanced by the addition of a purpose-designed conservatory which is a great place to sit and watch the red squirrels, deer, bats, grouse and ducks from the local duck pond. Drumrunie would suit parties of all ages and interests and enjoys a location within Braemar which itself remains unspoiled and welcoming. We enjoyed ourselves so much we came back...Ten times now...Beat that !
  • Steve and Jade Constable
A beautiful house and surroundings, great location. Should have booked two weeks. Our only concern is that if too many people find out how fantastic the house is we won't be able to have it next year because it will be booked up!
  • Gordon Monk
We filled the house as twelve people stayed for the week, no problem with room very spacious & every thing you need, great drives in the mountains, well worth a visit
  • Karen Blakemore
We had a fantastic week here. The snow came down and the woods at the back turned into a slalam event for the kids!! House gorgeous, warm and homely, with everything a family could need.
  • Elizabeth Winter
Lovely house, beautiful setting, one of the best equiped we've stayed in. Don't miss an early morning trip down the road to the Linn O'Dee, when it's quiet and you have it all to yourself! Fantastic!
