More information about Balgy Lodge

Property information

Balgy Lodge perches on a raised knoll above the River Balgy overlooking Loch Torridon and the spectacular surrounding mountains. Rooms command lovely views, and the grounds are an ideal play area for children as there is a gate and fencing to the road, and the river is a safe distance away. The climate on this part of the west coast is surprisingly mild due to the influence of the Gulf Stream, which has a warming effect on the area: pampas grass and palm trees grow in the area!

Built in the early 1990s, the lodge offers all the comforts necessary for a relaxing self-catering holiday - whatever the time of year. Warm and cosy, yet spacious and accommodating for a large family or group, Balgy Lodge is an ideal destination for year-round holiday rental.

This house will appeal to those outdoor enthusiasts who want to return to essential luxuries after a day on the hills, loch or sea, and to those who just like to enjoy the spectacular beauty of this part of Scotland. There are wonderful walks and hidden sandy beaches, and a number of Munros (3,000ft+ mountains) within easy distance.

Tastefully furnished and decorated to a high standard, the lodge is most suited to parties of seven adults and up to five children, although the bunk beds are full-size and can accommodate adults.

The area is home to some of Scotland's most spectacular mountains and lochs, and is ideal for those wishing to explore the west coast by car. The indented coastline is fascinating - from rocky shoreline to sandy beaches.

The lodge is heated by oil-fired central heating, and electricity is provided by wind turbine and generator.

Lovely position. Very warm comfortable and homely house. Weather wasn't brilliant , still a relaxing holiday. Larger TV would have been good.
  • Roger Warbrick
We were a group of 12 walking friends who enjoyed a wonderful week in Balgy Lodge, a splendid house with truly stunning views. The property we found to be extremely spacious, comfortable and well equipped, and in a prime location for the huge variety of walks in the area. The weather during our stay was mostly very good (just one wet day), we ate at the Torridon Inn (excellent food), drove over to Applecross via the amazing Bealach na Ba pass, and several people went on boat trips from Shieldaig (highly recommended). To summarise a great house for a large party to stay in, we are rather tempted to return despite the 9 hour drive!
  • Elaine Goodfellow
We were the very first people to stay in Balgy Lodge with LHH Scotland and we absolutely adored every minute. The view when we opened the curtains the morning after arrival following a 13 hour drive made every minute worthwhile. It was truly a holiday to remember in so many ways. I am just so sad to find it is not available this New Year.
  • Myra W Lawson, Linlithgow
We found Balgy Lodge extremely comfortable, and the surrounding scenery first-class. We had a minor plumbing problem when we were there, and found Jacqui and Murdo most helpful and efficient. The lounge itself is magnificent with spectacular scenery though every window.
  • Mrs Sarah Toonen
Well positioned for day trips to Applecross or Gairloch. Hiking out directly from the property is a bonus. Shieldaig (4 miles) has a well stocked shop which is open every day and so there is no need to overload the car with groceries - as we did! The views from the house are outstanding as is the well stocked and varied library and so there is no need to go out really.
  • Mrs Christine Blackwood
My family and I absolutely loved it here but would have preferred there to be more single beds instead of the 3 bunk bedded rooms as we didn't have any young children with us. Jackie the housekeeper was wonderful. Great views with red deer and loads of bats in the evenings gobbling up the midges. Otters were living on the opposite bank of the river and we had great fun scooting down the river on the rubber dinghys that we brought with us. Loads of fun.
